Eyelet Yoke Cardigan
Hello everyone! Today I want to show you my new work and share a pattern for it.
I knitted this cardigan for a 5 year old girl. As a basis, I use the free pattern Cotton-Ease Eyelet Yoke Cardigan.
However, I made changes - I knitted from top to bottom, starting with the yoke, and made the back and fronts without seams. In the original pattern two fronts and a back are knitted in separate parts, sleeves are knitted in rows, then all the necessary seams are made, and only after that everything is joined and a round yoke is knitted.
In addition, I used another yarn - Red Heart Super Saver Ombre, thickness 4, color Jazzy, 283 grams 440 meters, 100% acrylic.
The cardigan is knitted with 3.5 mm knitting needles, yarn consumption - 256 g (one skein was enough).
Gauge
Stockinette stitch -
- 16 sts in 10 cm, 1.6 st in 1 cm.
- 8 rows in 3 cm, 2.67 rows in 1 cm.
Taking measurements
Next, you need to take the necessary measurements and draw a sketch of the cardigan.
- Chest - 57 cm
- The length from the armhole - 23.5 cm
- Yoke height - 16.5 cm
- Sleeve length from armhole - 31 cm
I used calculations for the yoke from the original pattern Cotton-Ease Eyelet Yoke Cardigan.
Let’s start knitting
Yoke
The stitch pattern for the yoke is shown in the diagram
For increases, I used calculations for 4 years size from original pattern Cotton-Ease Eyelet Yoke Cardigan.
Cast on 73 stitches.
Knit a Yoke according to the pattern.
Along the edges make a band in Seed stitch pattern (4 stitches).

Separate the body and sleeves
53 sts (back) + 30 sts (front) + 30 sts (front) + 41 sts (sleeve) + 41 sts (sleeve) = 195 sts.
- Remove sts for sleeves on an additional thread,
- work 4 rows in stockinette stitch on the back (53 sts) for neck shaping.
- Next, join fronts and back (make 6 sts between fronts and back for the armhole).
- Work the body in a Stockinette st, make buttonholes every 23 rows (the 1st, 24th, 47th rows, 5 buttons in total). Work 58 rows in total,
- then bind off.
Sleeves
Slip the stitches from the additional thread to the knitting needles, join to the round (pick up additional stitches from the armhole) and work in Stockinette st, making decreases each 4th rnd 13 times (up to 52 rnd - 58 -> 32 sts).
Next, work according to the pattern:
Rnd 53: Knit.
Rnd 54: Purl.
Rnd 55: (K2tog, yo) repeat.
Rnd 56: Purl.
Rnd 57: Knit.
Rnd 58: Work in Seed st.
Bind off.
